Target

I hate to even articulate this, because that's normally the kiss of death for me, but . . .

If I write 2000 words a day for the rest of July, I can finish Stay With Me before school starts. Then I'd have August until December to work on either Troy Lee or Chris's book.

2000 words is approximately 5 manuscript pages in Samhain house style. So, I need to write an average of five pages daily until July 31. That doesn't sound too bad. And I have the book plotted already -- synopsis and all.

If I can keep Leroy "Hello, I want to be your new Muse" Kitty off my keyboard. He's a PITA to be so little.

How about you? Do you set goals or just take the writing as it comes? And how does that work for you?

I'm a goal setter and I try like heck to meet or beat 'em. Have to. With all the nonfiction on my plate, if I had no deadlines - even those just set by lil' ole me - I'd never get anything done!

Good luck!!!

So, hold on. 2000 words a day? Why does that sound utterly ominous to me? Are there truly 400 words on 5 pages? I've never counted that way.

My chapters typically run 5000 words and those are about 20 pgs TNR.

What am I missing? Maybe I'm counting wrong.

Thanks, Kristi -- I did make my goal yesterday (5.5 pages, 2267 words).

Joan, I'm using the computer word count (which Samhain uses) and typing in the house style for Samhain submissions (TNR, 1.5 spacing). I *average* 2000 words via computer count in 5 pages. But I'm making myself write to the 2000 word mark, even if that's 6, 7, 8 pages.

So, yesterday: 5.5 pages, 2267 words.

I've already written the synopsis, so that helps some. A little. LOL.
